The Beautiful Package of Sin

Just as Jim Collins wrote that “Good is the enemy of great,” we know that heresy is the enemy of God’s Word, and love for worldly things is hatred toward God (James 4:4). However, it gets tricky when the worldly things that we place before God are not always packaged in an ugly box of sin, but rather, a beautiful and deceptive package. Even noble things like ministers achieving success in the ministry becomes sin, when it is motivated by self-ambition and not for God’s glory. Working toward growing God’s church becomes sin and hatred toward God, when packaged in a box of “Oh, look at what we’ve done!” I’m just bold enough, or maybe not-so-bright enough, to say that God hates that! Even Tradition, and being leery of trying new and innovative ideas for expanding God’s kingdom, when placed before God’s will for His people and His Kingdom is sin and hatred of God…Anything we do, no matter how noble, how honorable, or how good, done with the wrong motives and born out of greed, and pride, etc…becomes sin and is an act of hatred toward God….Because if Christ isn’t at the very core of what we do, and how we do it, and ultimately at the core of who we truly are, even in the minutia of everyday life, both public, and especially when no one is looking…We become the enemy of God…and I must confess I have more times than not, found myself, acting as an enemy of God, not by what I was doing, but rather by my heart’s motivation.

“Oh please God, forgive me, and create in me a new and lovely heart, one whose every beat, beats for you!”
